Internet Auditoriums – Locus Sonus

(En español abajo)

Sounding Underground  was presented last weekend in the Internet Auditoriums Symposium, along with Networked Migrations. The spaces that these two projects create can be understood as Internet Auditoriums. Here the abstract of the paper. In the symposium we were listening to Interconnected Auditoriums which create a space for collective listening, using the Internet or not, with and without wires; listening collectively to the body (in hammocks), listening to the cloud, listening to real-fiction in Berlin, listening to twitterscapes, listening to the dreams, listening to all abilities, listening to Brazil, listening to sounds of childhood, listening to the tiny movements of the Big Ben, to Venice, and to the musicality of the languages that is extracted from the non-sense. We also listened to the strike and the protest in Nantes against the construction of the Airport. Interconnected listening makes the nature of sounds migratory, do we travel with them?. Rich, ethereal, complex, fragile, metaphoric, poetic and politic auditoriums. A delicious time of learning in Nantes! Many thanks to Locus Sonus team and to all the participants! and to the city of the giant Elephant!

Teaching Networked Musical Performances

I had the pleasure to teach a session about Networked Musical Performances in the Performance Technologies Module in the Masters of Creative Technologies at the Institute of Creative Technologies, De Montfort University.

It’s very interesting how our perception changes when we are conscious of the distance of the performance space (through telematic networks) and the effects that it has for the sonic interaction. We focus more on listening, and some students were attracted by the idea of intimacy. It allows to combine multiple media and sensibilities. Beautiful experience!! Thanks to all students.

A slide show of the experience by the film maker and student Tove Noorjahaan Dalenius.

Network Musical Performance Workshop

I had the great opportunity to be one of the four participants in the workshop Network Musical Performance Workshop: Technical and Artistic strategies to perform around the globe, led by Juan Pablo Cáceres at CCRMA – Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University.

This workshop has been keen to contextualize the Improvisation “Listening and Remembering” within the Sounding Underground environment, and to envision its development over the Internet.
